MODIFIED FLUORORESIN AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject resin excellent in heat resistance and mechanical properties under the radiation environment, and useful in e.g. nuclear installations, by irradiating a specific fluorocopolymer with ionizing radiation at a specific temperature in the absence of oxygen. SOLUTION: This modified fluororesin is obtained by irradiating a tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer or tetrafluoroethylene- perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether copolymer with ionizing radiation such asγ-rays, electron beams or X-rays at a dose of e.g. 1-15,000 kGy at a temperature near the crystal melting point (e.g. the melting point of the copolymer +10 deg.C or so) in the absence of oxygen.
