PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject DNA from a bacterium belonging to the genus Brevundimonas, which expresses stably when Escherichia coli is transformed with the DNA, and is useful to synthesize pimelyl-CoA from pimelic acid. SOLUTION: This DNA is obtained from a chromosome of gram-negative bacterium Brevundimonas diminuta IFO3140 and codes for a protein [or a protein in which at least one amino acids are substituted/deleted/inserted/ transposed, and has an activity to synthesize pimelyl-CoA from pimelic acid and coenzyme A (CoA)] having an amino acid sequence shown by the formula.
