PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject granules high in hardness, low in brittle crushability, having effect to inhibit developing dental caries, and optimum for tableting, by formulating xylitol and a specified amount of a specific binder. SOLUTION: This granules are obtained by formulating xylitol and about 0.1 about 5 wt.% of a physiologically acceptable noncariogenic binder selected from polymerized reducing sugar, alkaline carboxymethylcellulose and hydrogenated starch hydrolyzate; wherein the polymerized reducing sugar is pref. polydextrose, while the alkaline carboxymethylcellulose is pref. sodium carboxymethylcellulose. The above system may also be formulated with an enriched sweetener (e.g. dipeptide sweetener). Besides, it is preferable that a physiologically acceptable polyol consisting of a sweetener suitable for diabetes such as mannitol or a combination thereof is granulated using polydextrose as binder. |
