PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antifungal wood vinegar by purifying a crude wood vinegar stock with papaya enzymes, while leaving microbicidal component, such as phenol and formaldehyde and effectively removing other hazardous substances. SOLUTION: This wood vinegar is obtained by purifying a crude wood vinegar stock by making use of papaya enzymes. Concretely, the process is as follows; the crude wood vinegar is adjusted to pH 2.6-2.7; papaya, whose fruit seeds have been previously removed and cut into small pieces about 5-10 mm in thickness and about 3-4 cm in length, is immersed in the pH-adjusted wood vinegar stock for about 24 h at a rate of about 2-3 kg/3L and the papaya is then removed; next, the papaya-removed liquid is subjected to low temperature distillation at reduced pressure using a rotary evaporator, preferably, at about 4-10 rpm, more preferably, at about 8 rpm and under a pressure of, preferably, about 0.5-0.9/mm<2> , more preferably about 0.7/mm<2> and preferably at about 40-50 deg.C, more preferably, about 45 deg.C; by collecting about 10-15% first distillate, the objective wood vinegar useful as a medicine for athlete's foot is obtained. |
