PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a tool management method and system which can make optimum selection of a tool and grasp of the selective situation and provide a recording medium for a tool management program which can be read by a computer. SOLUTION: For a cutting tool used in a D/B-A, a comparator module M21 judges whether the data of each item of cutting conditions information of tool as new product in a D/B-B lies within the range of specified values of each item pre-registered or not. The tool which has the most items lying within the range of specified values is selected as an examiner tool as substitute candidate.
