The invention relates to a method and a plant for seawater desalting which is to be located under seawater level and is capable of exploiting the hydrostatic pressure that builds up at an at least 250 metre depth on one side of a semipermeable filter membrane, in order to overcome the osmotic pressure which is characteristic of salt water itself, whereas the other side of the membrane is kept at atmospheric pressure, whilst pumping operations are only reduced to those related to the fresh water obtained from the filtration. |
