A PSA process for purifying a gas stream, for example, of air, by removal of carbon dioxide impurity employs a blend or composite of activated alumina and a zeolite that is a selective adsorbent of carbon dioxide. The combined adsorbent results in a higher sieve specific product and lower vent loss as compared to a PSA process utilising activated alumina alone. Any moisture present in the gas stream is removed by the combination adsorbent or by a preliminary layer of desiccant. The method is particularly useful for the prepurification of atmospheric air by pressure swing adsorption. <IMAGE> |
