The gravity latch (1) has a housing (2) for mounting onto a gate post, retaining a pivotally mounted latch (3) movable between first and second positions in which a striker member (4) can be released for opening the door or gate. The latch is gravity biased to the second position and is key lockable preventing opening of the latch. The latch has a projecting curved tongue (8) which when contacted by the striker arm, is caused to rotate towards the first position. The striker arm then passes into a recess where the latch drops due to gravity to the second position, retaining it in place. The latch has an upper projecting tab (11) mounting a knob (12) slidably movable via a slot for manually moving the latch between first and second positions. |
