Thermotherapy device using focused ultrasound for removal of unwanted tissue

The device uses a focused ultrasound beam (2) for localised warming of the treated tissue (1), with monitoring of the tissue via an incorporated imaging device (3), e.g. a nuclear magnetic resonance imaging device. The ultrasound beam is generated outside the range of the imaging device and is transmitted to the treatment point via a waveguide (5), the imaging device using an electromagnetic field with an operating frequency which differs from each whole harmonic of the ultrasound frequency.
