An adhesive fastener (20) which has a reservoir comprising a cup (38) and a piston (68) located therein blocking entry of atmospheric water vapor and preventing unintentional leakage of adhesive from the reservoir and a wall portion or the reservoir may be displaced to prevent hydraulic lock as the piston is pushed into the reservoir during assembly and also when the fastener is being deployed against a substrate. Apparatus and a method of filling the reservoir and inserting the pistons while excluding atmospheric water vapor are disclosed.
