A method and apparatus of communicating information comprising providing a datum which includes a digital certificate containing multimedia data. The digital certificate including an extension (416) such as a template extension (600). The template extension (600) includes a first identifier (606) and a second identifier (608). The first identifier (606) represents a major classification of the multimedia data by providing the basic use of the certificate. The second identifier (608) represents a minor classification of the multimedia data by providing the exact type of data the digital certicate stores.
