<p>A core plug (10) includes a tube (14) formed from a light-weight material, such as woven carbon fibers, inserted into and connected to a steel rib assembly. The rib assembly includes a series of ribs (12) surrounding the tube (14), where each rib (12) includes a beam (18) parallel to the tube (14) and columns (20, 22, 24) connecting the beams (18) to the tube (14). The tube (14) can extend the complete length of the rib assembly or the rib assembly can extend beyond the end of the tube (14). A high molecular weight journal (16) is inserted in the outer end of the tube (14).</p> |
