The stop valve incorporates a housing (1, 1') with spherical closure element (7) which is rotatable through at least 90 deg and is provided with a cutout (9) and journals (12, 12'). Shells (6, 6') made of PTFE, glass fibre reinforced PTFE or a similar material serve as sealing elements. An O-ring (23) consisting of a material capable of taking up longitudinal thermal expansions of the valve housing is located between the seating surfaces (19, 20) of the shells (6, 6').
