A device is disclosed which, when used in climbing activities involving support ropes looped through karabiners attached to anchor points, reduces wear of the rope by providing the rope with a larger curvature bearing surface than if it were simply running over the karabiner. The device is circular, like a wheel, with a grooved rim for receiving the rope, and has a plurality of through-apertures whereby it can be engaged with a karabiner through the gate thereof at a number of selectively different positions whereby wear on the device can be minimized. With the device thus engaged with a karabiner, a rope engaged in the grooved rim of the devie is relatively gently curved over the device and is not bent sharply as over a karabiner itself, and this reduces rope wear.
