A new type of plastic pants for covering nappies, is novel in its incorporation of a band (5) of absorbent material, within the edges (2). This prevents loss of liquid. Preferably the covering is turned at the edge, to form a U-section recess (3) in which the absorbent band is contained. The band may be cotton wool. The covering is soft plastic, e.g. polyurethane.
