A breaking post 1 in particular for road signs, signposts or the like, which is provided with a joint part 10 in order to protect both the post and the vehicle in a collision. The joint part 10 has control surfaces 23 and 24 which pass between one another and are drawn towards one another by means of a wire 27 in the centre line, the wire being tensioned by a spring 28. Connected to the control surfaces 23 and 24 in their outer circle are bearing surfaces which form the support surface for the breaking post when the joint part 10 is bent.
