The basic refrigerator component cyclic sequence is elaborated by a loop (8,17,12,14,19) in which abstracted fluid in the liquid phase is used for supercooling the previously condensed refrigerant before returning to the main circuit. Refrigerant leaving the compressor (7) passes in the usual way to the condenser (2). A heat-exchanger (10) then supercools the fluid before it is expanded (3) into the evaporator (4). The mixed vapor and liquid phases pass thence to a separator (5), the vapor returning to the compressor to complete the cycle, while the liquid is pumped (9) to provide the supercooling (10), before passing through another expansion valve (11) and separator (18). Separated liquid rejoins the mixed evaporator phases in the main separator, while the vapor phase is admitted to an intermediate entry (13) in the compressor. A bypass connection (16) with a purge valve is used to regulate the system.
