PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate loss of a color tone and variation in hue at a specific color part outside a reproducible color area. SOLUTION: A virtual color monitor is assumed which constituted by changing chromaticity coordinates of colors representative of respective fluorescent bodies into virtual chromaticity coordinates having the same hue with the but higher saturation than the actual chromaticity coordinates and, and on the basis of color conversion relation for the virtual color monitor, XYZ as colorimetric values is converted into r'g'b' having linear luminance values as to red, green, and blue (S23). Then the value of r', g', or b' is set L (S24), and when i<=L, the value (c) is obtained from the values except the value set to L among r', g', and b' (S27). When -ck<=L<0, conversion from L to V is performed with a linear function of L varying in L segment with the value of (c) (S28), but when i<=L, conversion from L to V is performed with a function of L raised to 1/γth power (S30).
