<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an optimum constitution of an ATM switch by selecting a 1st or 2nd cell buffer based on the output of an identification means and controlling the write and read operations to the cell buffer. SOLUTION: A write control circuit 7 decides the presence or absence of an idle area by confirming an idle position information presence/absence flag of a relevant individual queue management counter 10. If an individual part 3 corresponding to the connection has an idle area, the part 7 acquires the cell write position information from a write position information counter of the counter 10 corresponding to the said idle area and writes a cell into the individual cell store area 3 of a cell buffer 2. If no idle area is available, the circuit 7 acquires the cell write position information from a queue management table 11 of a common cell store area 40 and writes a cell into a common cell store area 4 of the buffer 2. Thus, a necessary store area can be secured via the area 4 even for the connection where the area 3 was completely used as long as an idle area is available in the area 4.</p> |
