The sound generator (3) is held centrally between short (4)) and long-skirted (11,12) plastics caps, fitted (A) over the corked bottle mouth (2). A mechanical or optical release, initiated by breaking the cap(s), connects the module's power source to the generator, producing suitably chosen intermittent or continuous sound effects. The cork is depressed slightly below lip level, providing a protective cavity for the module. In a variant the module is placed directly in this cavity, the inner skirt (4) being omitted. Once in place, the capping is secured e.g. by rolling the skirt against the bottle. Opt., heat-shrinkable material, or a push-on cap, is used. A circumferential tear-strip is incorporated, for the user's convenience. The module includes a power source, e.g. a cell, a miniature speaker, signal generator and switching device whose normally open contacts close when the caps are separated. The sound produced opt. relates to the bottle contents, e.g. imitating the shrilling of cicadas for Provence wine.
