An image forming device is set to the 400-dpi mode. The densities of the test patch images developed at different revolving speeds of a developing sleeve are measured, then the revolving speed of the developing sleeve in the 400-dpi mode it set. The revolving speed of the developing sleeve for printing 1,000 sheets in the 600-dip mode is calculated and set based on the revolving speeds of the developing sleeve in the 400-dip and 600-dpi modes set at the time of the warm-up first thing in the morning and in the 400-dip mode for printing 1,000 sheets.
