PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate dispersion of color caused by thickness unevenness of a liquid crystal layer occurred in a liquid crystal display device of IPS system. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is constituted of a TFT array substrate 1 which is formed by installing a scanning signal line, a video signal line, a thin film transistor, a liquid crystal driving electrode, a common electrode and a common signal line on a substrate, a counter substrate 4 facing to the TFT array substrate 1, first spacers 8 for holding space between both substrates 1, 4 constant, second spacers 10 for holding space between peripheral parts of both substrates 1, 4 constant, a sealant 9 which is interposed at spaces between both substrates 1, 4 together with the second spacers 10 and sticks peripheral parts of both substrates 1, 4 together and a liquid crystal layer. In this case, intra-plane retardation of the display device (Δn).(dmax-dmin) is >=0 nm to <=20 nm.
