PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parity storage and data restoration method capable of performing restoration even when errors occur in two or more disks and of preventing the performance deterioration due to bottlenecks of parity disk. SOLUTION: In this method, [a disk array is constituted wherein N pieces (N is a prime number) of respective disks are defined by an (N-1)×N matrix] as an (N-1) pieces of block units, while each row is defined as a horizontal parity group 20, and the block of circulation constitution in an oblique line direction is defined as an oblique line parity group 22. With this configuration, a process for arranging the horizontal parity block, one disk by one disk, from the block of a first row in the oblique line direction and arranging the oblique line parity block to the prescribed row of the respective disks; a process for computing the data of the horizontal and oblique line parity groups and storing them in the pertinent horizontal and oblique line parity blocks; and a process for restoring a failed block of the oblique line parity group including only one failed block when errors occur in the two disks, then restoring other failed blocks of the horizontal parity group 20 including the restored failed block, and repeating this procedure as well as restoring error generation disks are executed. |
