PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary light projecting device that can surely project auxiliary light from a light source incorporated in a photographing device main body to an entire focus detecting area without being vignetted by a photographing lens without making the photographing device main body of a camera or the like large-sized. SOLUTION: Since the auxiliary light from the points 5A and 5C of a prism 5 is vignetted by the photographing lens 20 at an (a) point and its periphery at the right lower corner of the focus detecting area 6 positioned on the right side of a photographing image plane 16 by seeing from an object side, the auxiliary light from the point 5B of the prism 5 separated most from a main optical axis is projected at the focus detecting area 6.
