The inner rubber or elastomer layer (10) acts as the core or mandrel for the extrusion of a covering layer (12) of plastic over the inner layer, which is vulcanised or pre-vulcanised. The pipe is made from an inner layer (10) of rubber or elastomer /- 1 mm thick, and at least one covering layer (12) of an extruded plastic, using the inner layer as an extrusion core or mandrel. The pipe can have an additional outer layer (14) of vulcanised rubber or elastomer, with a film of an adhesive material between it and the extruded layer. Where the pipe is curved the outer layer can be vulcanised after the pipe has been placed in a mould or on a rod of the appropriate shape.
