PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical waveguide element having excellent mechanical strength and durability against temp., humidity, light and chemicals while maintaining characteristics as an optical waveguide, by forming a hardened resin layer essentially comprising one of an epoxy resin and phenyl resin, and a polyamide resin. SOLUTION: The waveguide element consists of an optical waveguide film having distribution of refractive index in a light-transmitting polymer film, and a hardened resin layer formed on one surface or both surfaces of the film. The hardened resin layer essentially consists of at least either epoxy resin or phenol resin, and polyamide resin. The epoxy resin or phenol resin has functions to give adhesion property, heat resistance, moisture resistance and chemical resistance. On the other hand, the polyamide resin is necessary to give not only adhesion property and flexibility but film forming property to form a resin layer and cohesion property, adhesion property, and shape holding property at room temp. or during heating in a layer depositing process. |
