The suspension strut has a cylinder and a piston with a rod having a sealed output from the cylinder. The suspension spring (20,20') acts on a support (8) which is axially adjustable. The point at which the springs acts on the supports (8,9) is adjustable within a preset range for the piston within the cylinder, via an adjuster (11). The adjuster can have a displacement sensor for the strut connected to a control for the suspension characteristics.
