<p>A method of manufacturing an optical module provided with an optical semiconductor device, a lens and a resin housing incorporating the lens and having an optical semiconductor device mounting portion, wherein the optical semiconductor device is put in the resin housing so that the lens and the optical semiconductor device are coaxial. The method comprises insert-molding a spherical lens (12) with a resin into a primary molded piece (20) that holds the spherical lens therein and performing a secondary molding by insert-molding the primary molded piece with a resin into a final housing shape that has a mounting portion (16) for the optical semiconductor device and a receptacle bore (18). In this way, the resin housing (14) with the built-in spherical lens is manufactured in two stages. This method allows the lens to be secured to the housing quickly and easily without using a resin adhesive or a fused glass. Further, the optical module can be manufactured with excellent weatherability, high reliability and low cost.</p> |
