Printing press adjustment mechanism

The press has one or more guards (1n) adjustable within limits in relation to an instantaneous(sic) pole axis (10) against the force of gravity and also in the opposite direction. A spring or counterweight exerts a variable supporting torque opposing that provided by gravity, and which acts on the guard. A control cam (13) acts against a follower (14) adjusting the supporting torque. The shape of the cam is such that at each point within the adjusting range the guard is in a state of equilibrium between the supporting torque and a predetermined hand force, both as regards value and direction. On adjustment in the direction opposing gravity, the hand force acts in opposition to the gravity torque with an initial part of the adjusting range.
