Lighting unit using optical fibres

The lighting unit has a carrier rail (1) to which the light output ends of a number of optical fibres (2) are secured, with the light directed onto a light conductor body (4) of an opalescent material for providing the output light radiation. The light conductor body is secured to the carrier rail at a given distance from it, with light shields (3) blocking the sidewards light output from the optical fibres.
