The invention relates to a method for determining segment times which can be implemented for internal combustion engines when only approximate camshaft angle information is available, e.g. when there is a defect in the crankshaft increment sensor and the determined segement times are too imprecise to regulate the internal combustion engine in a reliable manner. Accelerations which can be triggered through ignitions are subsequently determined. Said accelerations are converted into coefficients and used to correct segment times.
