摘要 <p>In a method of electrically and/or mechanically connecting a thin metal wire 2 to a vitreous body 1, the vitreous body is chosen with regard to its optical transparency such that it is transparent in the high thermal efficiency wavelength range of a laser beam 4 used for the bonding process, the laser beam being fired through the vitreous body so as to effect the bond. The laser beam 4 passes through the vitreous body 1 virtually unhindered and then strikes the end of the inserted wire 2. This scattering or absorption process produces local heating which vaporises at least a superficial portion of the wire. The metal vapour is then deposited onto the inner wall of the through-hole 3. This in turn, causes absorption of the laser beam in a region embracing said inner wall of the through-hole and produces local heating in this region. The glass melts locally and fuses with the wire.</p>
