Bearing cages consist of a comb-shaped part and a cover disc, both being riveted to each other. The comb-shaped part is pressed by extrusion. The method and the apparatus have the following features: an annular block (16), the mass of which is greater than the mass of the comb-shaped part which is to be shaped, is introduced into the block-receiving opening (15) of a die (12). During extrusion with a ram (6), the block material is extruded forwards into the cavities (14) of the die (12), in which the webs of the comb-shaped part are formed. The material continues to be pressed, the excess material being removed by backward extrusion. This excess flows out of the cavity (15) of the die (12) through a gap between the sidewalls of the upper part (15a) of the block-receiving opening and the lower part (6a) of the ram (6). The cavities (13) which serve for the shaping of rivet spigots at the ends of webs of the comb-shaped part are also filled with material. Thus extruded bearing cage with comb-shaped parts requires no further chipping treatment.
|
