The procedure includes use of subscriber identification SIM card within telephone to control graphics appearing on display panel. The SIM card transmits a signal to the telephone terminal to enquire as to the type of display used by the terminal, and the terminal responds to the SIM card with this information. The SIM card then transmits a request signal to display graphics on the telephone terminal screen, and this is acknowledged by the terminal. The SIM card subsequently transmits specific signals to initiate the display of specific icons on the telephone screen, the terminal responding with signals to indicate that this has been completed.
