A liquid crystal display with design variations, comprising a first liquid crystal cell (16) and a second liquid crystal cell (18), each having a liquid crystal layer sealed in a gap between a pair of transparent substrates each having an electrode formed on each of the opposing inner surfaces thereof, and arranged in that order from the viewing side; an absorption type polarizer plate (12) absorbing linear polarization having a plane of vibration perpendicular to the easy axis of transmission and arranged on the viewing side of the first liquid crystal cell (16); and a reflection type polarizer plate (14) reflecting linear polarization, having a plane of vibration perpendicular to the easy axis of transmission and disposed on that side of the second liquid crystal cell (18) which is opposite the viewing side.
