The strip closure element (10) is intended for a slit shaped opening (1) of a housing, particularly of a melting furnace (5) with a melting crucible (3) held by a carrier arm (2) which passes through this opening, while the closure element moving on rollers covers the region of the opening left free by the carrier arm. The carrier arm is mechanically connected to the opposite ends (8, 9) of the strip closure element.
