Cross beam for location on roof rack of motor vehicle

Cross beam (4) is positioned on longitudinal bars (3) with lower tubular channel (5) and upper C-shaped channel (6) for load retaining members. A clamping jaw (8) is fixed to each bar and further a jaw (16) is pivoted by lever mechanism with lever (14) carrying locking bolt (22) which can be swivelled through slots (23,24) in the tubular channel into the C-shaped channel. Lever is preferably in one piece with locking bolt.
