The airbag is contained in a housing (12). This is fastened to the centre hump strut (9) between centre hump (6) and cross strut (8). The centre hump strut is formed as a compressed gas container and has overflow openings to the airbag, and a connection for an ignition cable to activate the gas generator or to open the overflows. The housing has a tear-open wall facing the foot area of driver/ passenger.
