The arm rest has a core formed by a support bracket (2) consisting of at least two parts (2a,b), positioned at a relative distance to each other. The parts have an elastic connection (5) formed by e.g. a flat, spiral, or machine spring, by a sleeve of elastic plastic. The connection is positioned in the front surface area (6) of the backrest.
