The reference value provision method uses summation of a number of summation values, each corresponding to a single unit value, or a multiple of the single unit value, to obtain a reference value which is a defined number of units. A Josephson voltage reference value is provided using summation values each corresponding to 3 to a given power of the single unit value, with positive and negative summation to obtain the required reference value.
