A piece furniture for use for sewing has a cabinet component (11), which has doors (25, 26) and carries a work plate (15), features compartments and can accommodate a sewing machine. The compartments form a mobile part of the unit (10) so that they can be located in the inner section of the cabinet element (11) in the closed state of the component, under the work plate. When the element (11) is open, the compartments can be located outside this inner section. They are formed by tilting drawers (34).
