Rigid packets (1) of the type having a hinged lid are fashioned from diecut blanks (20) presenting a central longitudinal portion (29) flanked by two lateral portions (30), each consisting in a series of longitudinally disposed flaps (31, 32, 33, 34). The method of manufacture involves directing the blanks (20) singly and in succession between a pair of contrarotating rollers (54, 55) with dies shaped and positioned to engage each lateral portion (30); the dies are designed to modify a pair of adjoining flaps (32, 33) on each side, which ultimately will be bent through a right angle to form an internal layer (42) of the relative flank face (43) of the packet (1), by producing at least one bend (48) in one flap (32; 33) at an end adjacent to the other flap (33; 32), and forming a projection (45) on the longer flap (33) which in the finished packet (1) will be breasted permanently in contact with an inner reinforcing frame (16). <IMAGE> |
