A ground hardening built-up layer is formed on the surface of a trunk portion of a roll, and a frame sprayed layer of a carbide particle-dispersed type self-meltable and hardenable alloy (any one of Ni-based alloy, Co-based alloy and Fe-based alloy) of not less than 0.5 mm in thickness containing 3-60 wt.% of carbides, such as WC, WmCn, Cr3C2, NbC, VC, MoC, TiC and SiC or not less than one kind of primary particles of carbide, and particles melt-pulverized, sinter-pulverized, granulated and coated by or with not less than one kind of binder metal, or particles of complex carbide, having the form of granules or flakes with carbide particle sizes of 3 to 300 mu m, and fused in a certain case is formed on this built-up layer, whereby the roll renders it possible to display high abrasion resistance, passed plate material transferability and plate-damaging resistance, maintain a required level of performance for a long period of time, improve the equipment operating efficiency, reduce the repair expense, and improve the quality of the product taken up. <IMAGE> <IMAGE> |
