An adhesive strip that does not leave a residue or cause damage upon detachment, has a foam support that is coated on the side(s) with a self adhesive composition. The ratio of tear strength to the force required to remove the strip at a tear angle of less than 10 degrees C to the adhesive surface is greater than 1.2:1. The elongation at break of the strip is greater than that of the foam support and the support is torn upon detachment of the adhesive
