PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a styrene-based polymer excellent in strength and fluidity and suitably used as a substrate resin, etc., of a sheet useful as a plate material for building materials and a foamed sheet useful as a food container and provide a method for producing the polymer. SOLUTION: This styrene-based polymer is obtained by polymerizing a styrene-based monomer with 40-800 mol ppm polyfunctional vinylic monomer in the presence of a radical polymer initiator and weight average branch number (nW) calculated from linearly converted weight average molecular weight obtained by get permeation chromatography(GPC) method and weight average molecular weight obtained by GPC/multiangular laser light scattering method is 0.1-10.
