<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively, stably and efficiently decompose environmental pollutants and malodorous substances over a long period of time by bringing a liquid or gas to be treated into contact with activated carbon substantially held to an aseptic state by a chemical substance having sterilizing effect in the presence of an oxygen atom supply substance. SOLUTION: The liquid to be treated in a tank 1 is sent to a mixing tank 3 by a liquid sending pump 2 and a chemical substance having sterilizing effect and hydrogen peroxide being an oxygen atom supply substance are sent to the mixing tank 3 from a tank 9 by a liquid supply pump 10. The liquid to be treated and hydrogen peroxide mixed in the mixing tank 3 are sent to an activated carbon packed column 6 by a circulating pump 4 and circulated so as to be again sent to the mixing tank 3. The packed column 6 is packed with the granular activated carbon 8 and nonwoven fabrics 7 are laid to the upper and bottom surfaces of the column 6. It is pref. to preliminarily sterilize the liquid to be treated before the liquid to be treated and hydrogen peroxide are mixed in the mixing tank 3.</p> |
