PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a plurality of types of dot matrixes having different resolutions of a longitudinal direction by specifying an inclining angle of rows of recording elements in a recorder, a distance between the rows of the elements and a distance between the elements in the row of the elements. SOLUTION: A plurality of recording elements for recording in a dot matrix type are arranged in two rows and the rows of the elements are inclined at a predetermined angle to a relative scanning of a recording medium to constitute the recorder. In this recorder, when a distance along a scanning direction between an intermediate point between the elements of a row direction of the elements and the element adjacent to the point is x, a distance along a direction perpendicular to the scanning direction is y and an inclining angle of the row of the elements is θ, θ is set to a range for satisfying a formula I. Further, a distance DL between the rows of the elements is set to a range for satisfying a formula II (where m, n denote integers), and a distance DN between the elements is set to a range for satisfying a formula III.
