PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful as a developer for thermosensitive recording agents in a high yield and in a high purity in simple operations by reacting an arylsulfonamide compound with an aromatic isocyanate compound in specific conditions. SOLUTION: This method for producing an arylsulfonylureid compound of formula III [Ar<1> is an aromatic residue; Ar<2> is a di or tri-valent aromatic residue; (n) is 2, 3], such as 4,4'-bis[N' -(p-toluenesulfonyl) ureido] diphenylmethane, comprises reacting an arylsuolfonamide compound alkali metal of formula I (B is an alkali metal) (e.g. p-toluenesulfonamide sodium salt) with an aromatic isocyanate compound of formula III (e.g. diphenylmethane -4,4' -diisocyanate) in one or more kinds of solvents, such as acetonitrile containing 1-10 wt.%, at 10-50 deg.C and subsequently removing the alkali metal from the obtained product. |
