PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a knife-resistant felt for protecting a human body from a sharp projection such as a knife by including specific highly strong staple fibers and interlacing the staple fibers each other. SOLUTION: This knife-resistant felt contains >=50% of ultra high mol.wt. polyethylene staple fibers having a weight-average mol.wt. of >=500,000, a fineness of <=12d, a fiber length L satisfying the inequality: L>=d<1/2> x(t)/3 [(d) is denier; (t) is tensile breaking strength g/d], a tensile breaking strength of >=20 g/d, a tensile breaking elongation of <=8% and a tensile initial elastic modulus of >=650 g/d, and an apparent density (ρ) of 0.14-0.60 g/cm<3> , wherein the staple fibers constituting the felt are mutually interlaced by a punching processing method. The apparent density (ρ) is expressed by the equation: ρg/ cm<3> =(m)/[(s)×(b)×(l)] [(m) is the weight of the felt; (s) is the thickness of the felt; (b) is the width (cm) of the felt; (l) is the length (cm) of the felt]. |
