<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high density mesoporous body having a uniform pore diameter which is useful as an adsorbent and the like with good reproducibility while suppressing the reaction by mixing an alkoxysilane having a specified acid value, water and a surfactant. SOLUTION: An alkoxy silane having <=0.0045 acid value, preferably tetramethoxysilane, and water and a surfactant preferably comprising a compd. having 2 to 18C alkyl groups and hydrophilic groups and more preferably alkyltrimethylammonium (e.g. hexadecyl trimethylammonium chloride) are mixed while adding a small amt. of an acid (diluted hydrochloric acid) to control pH to 1 to 4. Then an aq. soln. of NaOH is added to the mixture to control the pH to >=5 and to form a gel. The powdery or film state silica/surfactant composite body thus obtd. is subjected to calcination at 400 to 1000 deg.C or to solvent treatment with alcohol to remove the surfactant.</p> |
